Bertrum Donley Hood

Funeral services for Bertrum Donley Hood, age 91, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 4:30 pm Sunday,  March 7, 2010 at Autry Funeral Home chapel, Jacksonville with Rev. Dan Middleton officiating.


Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville.


Mr. Hood passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 in Jacksonville after a long illness.


He was born February 16, 1919 in Old Larissa Community near Jacksonville to Benjamin Omer Hood and Ethel Holcomb Hood. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1936, and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. While stationed in Corpus Christi in 1944, he met and married Margaret Oehler. After his discharge from the U. S. Navy, the couple settled near Jacksonville. Mr. Hood was a well known carpenter, builder and rancher. He was the Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation Award Recipient 1986. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in the Corine Community.


He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret (Margie) Hood, brothers Dewey Hood, Bennie Hood and Jerry Hood, and sisters Elsie Hood Colter and Mattie Imogene Hood Bossart.


He is survived by sons Kelton Hood and wife Debra of Jacksonville and Don Hood of Ben Wheeler; daughters Janie Cox and husband Joe of Jacksonville and Barbara Lowry of Quitman; ten grandchildren Timothy Hood, Brian Hood, Christopher Hood, Mary Lowry, Brent Cox, Katrina Martinez, Lana Coskey, Charlotte Odom, Connie Cox and Amber Rogers; and eleven great-grandchildren.


Pallbearers will be Dennis Hood, Bennie Ray Hood, Eric Odom, Doyle Smith, Steve Comte and Robert Setliff.


The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.


The family thanks the kind and caring staff of Legend Oaks Nursing Home for the compassionate care given to their father and grandfather.
